The club develops by accumulating successive performances of different orders, covering the changing needs that arose in each era. This fragmentary evolution means that the club reaches the present without a clear, representative image. Being, as the club is, a social benchmark for the population of Getxo and sports at a national and international level, we have sought to give it that image that, we believe, corresponds to it.
At the operational level, we observe that a significant percentage of the plot area is completely unused for much of the year. In addition, the visual separation is total, so that by preventing mutual observation between the different parts that make up the whole, the fragmentary character that we mentioned is accentuated.
Taking into account these considerations and the needs of the program, we propose a series of gabled roofs -parallel and with varying rhythms and lengths depending on their use- sewn by a perimeter low body. This perimeter element fulfills two main functions:
-Provides a uniform image, characteristic of a large part of the perimeter, previously formed by walls, fences or hedges in its different parts.
-Unites all the pieces near the edge -new and old- through a covered, closed and air-conditioned route in some sections, allowing a new axis of circulation.
The existing Central Building represents a visual and circulation barrier between the different parts of the complex. By removing only a part of this construction we solve this problem. The resulting elongated piece becomes part of the series of roofs in the proposal and is naturally integrated into our project.
The new organization of the club's uses is as follows. The main access remains where it currently is. To the west of the access, near the edge, on the first line, a series of roofs that house paddle tennis courts, 10 specifically, which added to the 2 uncovered interior courts make up a total of 12 paddle tennis courts. An increase of 7 tracks compared to the starting state. The tracks near the edge are linked by the low body, which gives rise to a covered walkway, with benches that act as stands in relevant competitions and provide the tracks with a place for socializing before and after the matches. Continuing west, once the paddle tennis courts are behind, we arrive at the new socio-cultural center. A low piece that resolves the unevenness between the street and the interior garden by means of a ramp with an 8% slope. This space is configured with a broken geometry to respect part of the existing trees.
To the east of the access are the new changing rooms, and the new gym room, just below. If we go inside the plot, after going through the changing rooms we reach the swimming pool, under its new cover, softly illuminated through its skylights. Among the new changing rooms and the gym is the new wellness area, which consists of a sauna, steam room and hydromassage showers.
